How to Paint: Grimdark Cloth

I get asked quite often what my general method for cloth is. Well, here is at least one version of that! As a first step, we start with a desaturated base color and then render a quick value pass using acrylic inks and enamels like streaking grime or dark brown wash. After that, we get a little technical as we begin working a mottling pass of Abteilung 502 oils to ease transitions, create surface variation, and texture. Finally, want to desaturate the cloth with a grayish matte-drying enamel. Check out the full process here!
