What is Villainy Ink?

Villainy Ink is a line of solvent-based enamel washes and effects paints designed for miniature painters seeking grimdark, weathered, and atmospheric finishes. These products are formulated specifically for hobby use on miniatures and scale models.

Are your paints handmade?

Yes. All Villainy Ink products are handmade and formulated in-house by Grimdark Compendium at our Villainy Ink Warehouse in Pickens, South Carolina. Each formula is developed and tested through real-world miniature painting applications.

Are your paints solvent-based?

Yes. Villainy Ink products are solvent-based enamel paints intended for adult hobby use.

We recommend:

  • Proper ventilation
  • Avoiding ingestion or prolonged skin contact
  • Keeping away from children and pets

How toxic are they?

Our formulas are designed to be very low in toxicity for solvent-based hobby paints and have approximately 99.99% of VOCs removed where possible.

Even so, they should always be treated as hobby chemicals and used responsibly.

Can they be taken on airplanes?

Villainy Ink bottles are small, sealed hobby liquids and are generally travel-safe. However, airline and airport regulations vary.

Always check with your airline and local aviation authority before flying with solvent-based materials.

Should I use them straight from the bottle?

They can be used:

  • Straight from the bottle
  • Or thinned with mineral spirits

Many painters prefer combining them with Anti-Death Mineral Spirits or other mineral spirits to adjust flow and drying behavior.

What types of paints do you offer?

Washes

  • Thinner consistency
  • Flow easily into recesses
  • Can be hand-shaken

Effects Paints

  • Thicker binder
  • Longer drying times
  • Designed for staining, texture, and special effects

Do some paints contain granules?

Yes. Some paints intentionally include granules or particulates for mottling and texture effects. This is by design.

How should I mix Effects paints?

  • Use a vortex mixer when possible
  • Then hand shake thoroughly

How should I mix Washes?

Washes can be mixed by hand-shaking thoroughly before use.

Why do drying times vary?

Drying behavior can change based on:

  • Pigment type
  • Surface texture
  • Environment
  • Amount of thinner used

Adding mineral spirits can alter finish and dry time.

How long does shipping take?

Processing typically takes 1–3 business days domestically. Transit time depends on the carrier and the location.

Tracking numbers are emailed once orders ship.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship internationally via DHL. Delivery between 3-5 days after shipment. International customers are responsible for any customs fees or import taxes.

Returns & Refunds

What is your return policy?

We accept returns on unused and unopened physical products within our return window.
