Very interesting. I tried painting gold armor via airbrushing antique gold GSW pigment with metal varnish (instead of acrylic medium). Sadly the undercoat was standard grisaille (black primer, oblique medium dark grey, and zenithal white ink), and the overall result was quite dull… I will try again with a full black undercoat and with preshading as you do…
