what is the black chalice?

Black Chalice Competition is a new overarching format for our Grimdark Challenges.

Each year, there will be 4 painting challenges, working as qualification rounds for the final, 4th round of the competition, The Black Chalice Main Category.

how do I qualify?

To qualify for the final round, you need to enter one of our Grimdark Challenges and either:

• Place in the Top 3
• Be chosen for Best of Show
• Be chosen as a Community Champion by your peers

what if I did not qualify?

If you didn’t achieve one of the above, worry not! Alongside The Black Chalice Main Category, there will be an Open Category.

Anyone can enter the Open Category, and it works the same as every other grimdark challenge round.

what about previous winners?

Winners, Best of Show, and Community Champions from previous challenges automatically qualify for The Black Chalice Main Category 2026

what can I win?

Every Grimdark Challenge, including The Black Chalice Main Category and Open Category, will award prizes from both us and our sponsors.

But the top prize for The Black Chalice Main Category is:

• 5000 USD cash prize
• The Black Chalice Trophy _{(painted by Zatcaskagoon)}
